Do I need a Tax Identification Code before registering for VAT in Cyprus?

Short answer

Yes. The Tax Department registers the company in the Tax Register first and issues its Tax Identification Code; the VAT application is accepted only after that, or with the reference number of a pending online application written on it.

A company registers in the Tax Register within 60 days of incorporation. The request is made online through Tax For All, and since 1 July 2026 a company registered with the Registrar makes it logged in through CY Login. The Tax Department asks for the Registrar's certificates of incorporation, registered office, directors and secretary, and shareholders, and the identity document of the officer who submits the request.

The VAT application is a separate form, T.D. 1101. The Tax Department's page says it is filed on paper at the district tax office, with the Registrar's certificates and evidence of the taxable activity, such as invoices, agreements or correspondence. If the Tax For All request is still pending, the form carries its REG reference number instead of the code.

We prepare both registrations in that order and keep the Tax For All credentials with the company's other records.
