When do I deregister from my Dutch municipality when moving to Cyprus?

Short answer

If you expect to spend at least two-thirds of a year (eight months) outside the Netherlands, you must deregister from the BRP. You report your departure from five days before you leave up to the day you leave.

The eight months do not have to be in one block. Not reporting your departure can cost a fine of up to €325.

In Dutch: uitschrijven uit de Basisregistratie Personen (BRP) bij emigratie. Your municipality's website shows how to report it, often online.
