Is there a tax treaty between the Netherlands and Cyprus?
Short answer
Yes. The first Netherlands–Cyprus tax treaty was signed on 1 June 2021, came into force on 30 June 2023 and applies from 1 January 2024.
Before 2024 there was no treaty between the two countries, and the Netherlands relied on its own unilateral rules, which now apply only where the treaty does not.
Three points matter most when you move. Dutch pensions are taxed only in Cyprus unless they total more than €15,000 gross a year. The Netherlands keeps its claim on the growth in value of a substantial shareholding built up while you lived there. And director's fees from a Dutch BV can still be taxed in the Netherlands.
A company that is resident in both countries gets no relief under the treaty until the two tax authorities agree where it belongs.
