Is stamp duty still payable on contracts in Cyprus?

Short answer

No. Stamp duty was abolished from 1 January 2026, so rental agreements and other contracts signed from that date are no longer stamped.

The Stamp Duty Laws of 1963 to 2024 were repealed by Law 239(I)/2025 with effect from 1 January 2026.

The Tax Department has said that documents signed by at least one party by 31 December 2025 remain subject to stamp duty. If you are relying on an older lease or contract that was never stamped, ask before you use it in an application.
